This morning after celebrating the 8AM Mass here at Holy Family parish in Albuquerque, I had finished talking to folks in the vestibule and aisles, when I noticed one middle aged woman standing to the side weeping. I approached her and realized she could not speak English, so I invited another lady to translate her Spanish. She was holding a baby, but said she had three more under 13 at home.

Her husband had been picked up on Friday and immediately sent back to Mexico after they had lived here for over ten year and raised their children here. She was desperate and alone, as the husband had even been returned to another part of Mexico that was not his home. He was desperate too. She asked for no money, no immediate assistance, just a blessing and a promise of prayer. How easy that was to give. Yet she had far more faith, hope and love than I do! Do most Americans have any idea? Do most who are called Christian, or God loving, have any idea?
